She completed a brain imaging research fellowship, as well as residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry and an Endocrinology Fellowship at the University of Iowa. In July 2012, she graduated from the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program at the University of Colorado. Dr. Westmoreland is Board certified in General Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Forensic Psychiatry. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), President Elect of the Colorado Psychiatric Society (CPS), Chair of the Colorado Physicians for Mental health Political Action Committee, and a representative to the APA Assembly. In 2018, she will begin serving as councilor to the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) and Chair or the AAPL Suicidology committee. Her interests include ethical and legal challenges in managing patients with severe eating disorders, psychiatric evaluation and management of medically ill patients, and the intersection between psychiatry and the law.

She has also been appointed to the Core Faculty of the The Medical Center of Aurora Psychiatry Residency Program, where she trains general psychiatry residents in a variety of topics, including the field of forensic psychiatry. Her medical practice is dedicated both to providing private forensic psychiatry services and to her teaching and clinical responsibilities.
After earning an undergraduate degree in psychology, Dr. Brar attended Baylor College of Medicine. She completed a residency in general psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio in 2011 and graduated from the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Colorado in 2012. Following her fellowship, Dr. Brar served in the United States Air Force until 2018, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and holding several leadership positions, including Deputy Chief of the Medical Staff. During her time in the Air Force, she completed a combat deployment and earned several awards for her service.
Dr. Brar is board-certified in both Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. She is active on several professional committees in both the Colorado Psychiatry Society and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Dr. Brar's interests include the role of forensic psychiatry in military law, and she is knowledgeable in consulting on military cases. She is also experienced in both criminal and civil evaluations, including but not limited to: competency and sanity assessments, disability evaluations, independent medical examinations, and more.
